Separating One Image into Two

Editing any image, you have to separate some part of it so you can edit it differently. This is how i managed to split and insert one of my designs into a new layer with Adobe Photoshop but can be simply replicated with the same tools on Pixelmator.

First thing you would do is to select the image with the Square selection tool,  Control+C then delete the image with the backspace. 

Create a new layer then just right hand click, paste into the new layer!
